CPSC, Aqua Scout Announce Recall of Aqua Scout Water ScootersThe following product safety recall was conducted voluntarily by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product. Product: Aqua Scout Water Scooters Units: About 475 Importer: MyDigitalDiscount.com Inc. / Aqua Scout, of Minetto, N.Y. Hazard: Hydrogen gas can build up in the battery compartment and cause the battery cover and the battery package to forcefully expel from the product, posing a risk of injury to the user or bystanders. Incidents/Injuries: Aqua Scout has received five reports of the battery cover and/or the battery package being expelled from the water scooter, including two reports of minor injuries such as lacerations and bruising. Description: The Aqua Scout Water Scooter is a hand-held, battery-powered product used to propel swimmers through the water. The product has a yellow or red plastic enclosure, a black plastic handle and propeller. There is no model numbers or brand name written on the scooter. Sold at: Online at the Aqua Scout Web site and through eBay from May 2005 through July 2005 for about $120. Manufactured in: China Remedy: Consumers should stop using the recalled water scooter immediately and return it to Aqua Scout for a free replacement.
